If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a noise? If your business doesn’t show up on the first page of Google, does it even exist?

Google processes, on average, over 40,00 search queries every second. (For an interactive visual, check this out.) Having quality content is one of the keys to obtaining a high ranking on Google or even the coveted spot of position zero, aka the featured snippet. And, how do top marketers do this? SEO, of course! But, why is SEO so critical to your company’s success? Simple. It makes your brand more valuable to your target consumer and helps you knock out the competition.

Credibility & Value

The goal of any company is to lay the framework down for a long-lasting relationship with the consumer. Why? Because if a brand is capable of building trust, its customers will reward them. The 2019 Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report, In Brands We Trust? dropped substantial statistics to facilitate this claim. Buyers who trust a brand, versus buyers with little brand trust, are:

  • More apt to buy a new product: 53% vs. 25%
  • More loyal to a brand they trust, even in the face of disruption and competition: 62% vs. 29%
  • More prone to advocate for the brand: 51% vs. 24%
  • Almost twice as likely to defend the brand when things go awry: 43% vs. 22%

The benefits of investing in the credibility and value of your brand are overwhelmingly in your company’s favor. However, just like anything worth doing, it’s worth doing well with concerted effort, patience, and commitment.

By creating and publishing quality content regularlypublishing-quality-content-regularly, your company can reach critical decision-makers that are more apt to be your ideal consumer. When you hone in on identifying your target customer, you eliminate wasted time, energy, and resources. By incorporating keywords and long-tail keywords into your content, links, URLs, meta descriptions, tags, and titles, your company has a higher chance of ranking on the first page of Google’s search queries. And, as we said before, if you’re not on the first page, does your company even exist?

Customer Marketing Capabilities

Knowledge is power, and once you’ve built trust by providing “social proof” of value (Google rank), your company can dissect the heaps of website data inevitably heading your way. As more traffic enters your site, your business can better understand what your target customer is looking for and what they are trying to accomplish. If your team becomes better at predicting questions and is also proactive in helping the consumer get the most out of your products or services, your company will be unstoppable, especially with competitors, when it comes to developing repeat buyers and advocates for your brand.

When your company utilizes SEO effectively, your customer: finds you → vets you → trusts you → buys from you → refers you to other like-minded consumers → repeats. This lifecycle alone makes staying on top of your SEO not merely a suggestion, but an open-ended, and necessary, process.
